11/18/2001 - Orchard Park, New York - Today, we were at Ralph Wilson Stadium to watch Gregg William's Buffalo Bills take on Mike Holmgren's Seattle Seahawks in front of 60,000 plus fans. It was a nice November day in the mid 50's and the Bills played hard but never led in the game and fell to the Seahawks by a score of 23-20. The Seahawks opened the scoring on the first of three field goals by Rian Lindell, Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback was efficient throwing a touchdown and running back Shaun Alexander ran for 93 yards and a touchdown. The Bills played well as Alex Van Pelt threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, wideout Peerless Price had an excellent game with 10 receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown but the Bills had literally no running game. The Bills turned the ball over twice and played catchup the entire game. Despite the loss the game was highlighted by the Wall Of Fame ceremony at halftime for Bills soon to be Hall of Fame quarterback, Jim Kelly. Kelly was inducted into the Bills Wall Of Fame by Bill's owner Ralph Wilson who also made a surprise announcement that Kelly's number 12 would be the first number ever retired by the Bills organization. A touching ceremony that had Kelly's young son Hunter on hand along with numerous Bill's alumni and the 60,000 plus fans who held a huge number 12 jersey across the stadium in honor of Kelly. Kelly was the 17th person to be put on the Bills Wall Of Fame that was established in 1980 to honor players, coaches, and administrators who have made significant contributions to the team. Although the Bills lost the game it was still a great day in Buffalo Bills history honoring the last Bill to wear number 12, somewhere out there Daryle Lamonica and Joe Ferguson are smiling.Slideshow |
