 11/14/1970 - Brooklyn, New York - Today, this Saturday November 14, 1970, we lost Giacomo (Jack) Florio at the age of 78. Giacomo was born on Friday June 24, 1892 in the Village of Volturino in the Province of Foggia, Italy to parents Pasquale Florio and Maria Giuseppa Albano. Giacomo came to America on the ship Prinzess Irene from the port of Napoli, Italy arriving at Ellis Island on April 8th, 1911, two days later than expected due to the ship hitting a sandbar and being stuck for 83 hours. He married Theresa (Grieci) Florio who was born on May 30, 1891 in Avellio, Italy to parents Felippo Grieci and Elisabetta Luongo. The civil marriage was on February 4, 1915 and the church marriage was held March 7, 1915 at St Michael's Church. Theresa and Giacomo had six children, #1 Pasquale Florio who was born January 23, 1915 and died March 21, 1926 at the age of 11, #2 & #3 twins Guiseppine Florio born January 26, 1917 and died in July of 1917 at 6 months of age, her twin Donato Florio was born on January 26, 1917 and Donato married Carmela DeFranco and had thee kids Jack, Rocco and Theresa. Donato passed away on December 8, 1970 at the age of 53, #4 Josephine Florio born February 26, 1918, never married and died May 4, 1982 at the age of 64, #5 Elizabeth Florio Adams born March 10, 1922 and had one child Robert Adams (b 8/2/1956) she died February 5, 1997 at the age of 75, #6 John Florio born July 15, 1925 never married died May 19, 2013 at the age of 83. Giacomo was survived by his wife Theresa (Greici) Florio, childen Donato Florio, Josephine Florio, Elizabeth Florio Adams and John Florio, grandchildren Jack Florio, Rocco Florio, Theresa Florio and Robert Adams, great grandchildren Jack Florio Jr, Michael Florio, Daniel Florio and Brian Florio. He was laid to rest at Piro Funeral Home in Brooklyn, New York.Slideshow |
