Little Ol Band From Texas ZZ Top Rocks The Main St Armory

11/2/2012 - Rochester, New York - Today that lil ol band from Texas, ZZ Top, played in downtown Rochester New York at Main Street Armory. Deb came thru with free tickets from Fickle 93.3 radio, so Dom and I headed out for another evening of classic rock. Our first stop was a quick dinner at Wegmans Market Cafe and then onto one of are favorite stores in the Rochester area the infamous House Of Guitars. There we played some nice acoustic and electrics from Fender, Taylor, Martin and Gibson. We then headed to the Main Street Armory waiting in the large line in the cold. The doors opened at seven and the first act came on at eight some local band nothing worth mentioning. At nine, Dusty Hill, Frank Beard and Billy Gibbons stepped onto the stage and played a tremendous show. The somewhat small crowd enjoyed a great set of classics and some stuff from their new album La Futura. They opened with I Thank You and then right into Waitin For The Bus. They played many of thier classics in the ninety minute set including Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers, Sharp Dressed Man and Heard It On The X to name a few. They looked and sounded timeless almost the same as when I saw them some 20 plus years earlier. Billy Gibbons continues to play his blues style flawlessly and pulled out what he said was his first guitar and jammed on it. They finished the set with Legs and then came out for a three song encore that included Tube Snake Boogie, LaGrange and Tush. This was an excellent show, keep the big acts coming to these small venues.Slideshow
