Exploring The Big Apple And Clapton Night Two At MSG

3/20/2017 - New York, New York - Day two of our getaway to New York City started with breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express at Chelsea then a little shopping at Macy's. We then hopped on the subway uptown to tour The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibits there were fantastic and included famous artwork from the likes of Van Gogh, Monet, Piscasso, Matisse and Rembrandt. We only scratched the surface of this awesome museum due to time. It was a nice spring like day and we walked Central Park taking in the scenic views including a stop at Strawberry Fields and Belvedere Castle. We then headed back downtown via subway to Ruby Tuesdays in Times Square to meet Michael for an early celebration surf and turf dinner for his upcoming birthday. With little time to spare, we headed back down to Madison Square Garden to watch Eric Clapton's second night performing there. The seats were okay first row of the upper deck and the show started right on time at 7:30 like the prior night. Jimmie Vaughan opened and did a decent short set. After a brief intermission Gary Clark Jr came out and played a similar set to the prior night with excellent jams on Bright Lights and When The Train Pulls In. A good lead into Clapton. Eric Clapton and band hit the stage soon after and played a great set. It was essentially the same as the prior night just in a different order opening with Somebody's Knocking. He played the classics both electric and acoustic including Layla, Wonderful Tonight and Cross Road Blues. He closed the set with Cocaine and came out for a two song encore. First encore was Sunshine Of Your Love and the second was Before You Accuse Me joined by Jimmie Vaughan and Gary Clark Jr for an extended jam. An excellent day in the Big Apple ! The next day a quick breakfast at the hotel then a stop at Sam Ash Music to play some nice lefty acoustics and some pianos, then off to Penn Station to catch the Amtrak home. A great getaway to see the master, we may have to do it again in September.... Slideshow
