 8/16/2013 - Lockport, New York - Back when the Labatts Canal Concert Series lineup in Lockport was first announced there was one show I think everyone circled as a must see. That show was tonights performer the awesome guitar talents of Rik Emmett former lead guitarist for the classic rock band Triumph. We arrived early into Lockport and stopped and visited some relatives then grabbed the traditional Reid's burger and headed to the show. The first act was nobody worth mentioning, but the second group was a band called Ddrive. They featured the former lead singer from Talas and they put on a good set. They finished with an excellent cover of Talas's Sink Your Teeth Into That. It brought back lots of memories for some of the older local fans. Soon after their set Rik Emmett and his band hit the stage. They played a somewhat short but good set. They opened with Lay It On The Line and added a couple unexpected great covers including Whole Lotta Love from Zeppelin and Layla from Clapton. Each band member did an extended jam on Three Clouds Across The Moon and they finished the set with Magic Power. Dom got into VIP with the camera and had fun shooting Rik and his band up close and got some excellent shots. Rik spent lots of time talking with the crowd. He told them how he has played this series four times, was getting old being sixty and how he will hide by the stage and come out for the encore of Fight The Good Fight. Rik proved undoubtedly he can still play the axe, maybe not as good as 1983 but he still gets the job done. Thanks for the free one. Slideshow |
