Deep Purple Space Trucks Into Artpark Tuesday In The Park

7/14/2015 - Lewiston, New York - Today is Tuesday in July and you know what that means, that's right another classic rock concert at Artpark's Tuesday In The Park Concert series in Lewiston, New York, tonight's performer the truly classic rock of Deep Purple. We arrived a little later than usual but our spot was secured by our friend Larry again. The weather was threatening all day with rain but it held out and it was a nice evening for a show. The local band the Mick Hayes Band opened the show and did a decent set. Soon after Deep Purple hit the stage and did a good set of old and new tunes. They opened with Highway Star and drifted into some newer stuff. The show included someone flying a Phantom drone over the crowd during the performance. They played other classics like Lazy, Space Truckin and Perfect Strangers. The band sounded pretty good with Steve Morse wailing on the guitar and Don Airey showing mastery of the keyboards for the Deep Purple sound. Ian Gillian did an okay job at vocals but showed his age a bit, still performing adequately. They finished the set with what else but Smoke On The Water. When Morse started with the riff the crowd went crazy. They finished with two encores the classic Hush and Black Night. A good show but a little disappointing in that they could have played so much more.Slideshow
