Roadtrip To Montreal Fun, Sites And McCartney

7/27/2011 - Montreal, Quebec - An early gift for Deb's upcoming birthday a roadtrip to Montreal to see the legendary Paul McCartney in concert. We hopped in my new car and headed way north of the border arriving at are hotel, the Best Western Hotel Europa, in the heart of downtown Montreal a stones throw from the Belle Centre. We walked the city a bit taking in the scenary of the city and were entertained by a local french band on the corner next to the Belle Centre playing Beatles songs, who were actually very good. The doors to the concert opened very late and Paul McCartney came on forty minutes later than expected but played an awesome set of Wings and Beatles songs. Opening with Magical Mystery Tour and playing classic tunes such as Something, Live And Let Die, Hey Jude and many many more. He came back out twice and played six songs in the encores. An excellent show that was three hours long and had Paul changing instruments almost every song. The next day we explored the city of Montreal a bit. We spent time at the Belle Centre the mecca for the Canadiens hockey team with great statues and monuments to the team. We then journeyed up to Mount Royal for some nice hilltop views of Montreal. We then checked out the Olympic Stadium and then headed to Old Montreal. There we explored the many restuarants and shops and took in the beautiful Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel. Finally we drove to the Casino Montreal for a little gambling action with both of us catching a little luck winning a hundred bucks or so. A great getaway and an excellent concert.Slideshow
