London Adventure In Full Swing With Sites And Clapton At RAH

5/21/2015 - London, England - Our first full day in London started early with swimming laps in the awesome indoor pool at our excellent hotel the Park Plaza Westminster London Bridge. This was followed by relaxing in the sauna and taking a nice steam to start the day. We took in the daily view of Big Ben and headed back down Queen's Walk down the River Thames. We stopped at Founders Arms Pub for a nice English breakfast on the riverside of the Thames. The pub offered nice outdoor dining with great views of the city of London. After breakfast we headed to the Tate Modern museum for a quick tour. We viewed some great original paintings from famous artists like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Andy Warhol. We then crossed the Millenium Bridge and got some close up views of St Pauls Cathedral and London's financial district. We then hopped on the Tube and headed to the west side of the city of London to Abbey Road Studios. There we made the walk that the Beatles made some forty-six years ago in front of Abbey Road Studios. We then took a short Tube ride to have a preconcert dinner at the original Hard Rock Café. After dinner back to the hotel, then back on the Tube to take in the first concert of the trip, Eric Clapton at the spectacular Royal Albert Hall! We arrived early taking some pictures of the beautiful venue. The concert started promptly at 8PM with Andy Fairweather Low and his band opening the show. They came out and played a just okay set. After his short set Eric and his band hit the stage. Seeing one my favorite artists, Clapton, play at this venue was definitely a dream come true for me personally. He opened with the JJ Cale song Somebody's Knocking. He ripped thru a great set of covers and classics. He played both an electric and acoustic set. He played classics like I Shot The Sheriff, Layla, Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out and Let It Rain to name a few. He finished the set with a nice jam on Cocaine. He came out for a single encore cover of the Joe Cocker song High Time We Went. The show and venue were excellent and this first show lived up to my expectations. An excellent day in the UK with lots more to come. 1 3 4 5 Slideshow
