Train Trip To NYC For Some Slowhand At The Garden

10/6/2018 - New York, New York - The day started early today heading to downtown Rochester, New York to catch an Amtrak train to the heart of New York City for a weekend of sites and jams with the master Mr Slowhand, Eric Clapton performing at Madison Square Garden. The train arrived a little late and our room at the Holiday Inn Express Times Square was not ready making time a little tight. We finally got checked in with some free snacks provided to us for the wait and then we headed to grab a bite to eat quick at our favorite MSG spot Brother Jimmy's BBQ. It was perfectly timed and we entered Madison Square right on time to get to our seats and take in night one of Clapton. The show started promptly at 7:30 with Jimmie Vaughan opening with a pretty good set that included a good jam on Texas Flood. He was then followed by Gary Clark Jr who also played a good set including a nice jam on Bright Lights. After a brief intermission Clapton hit the stage and did his typical great set. He opened with Somebody's Knocking and played other classics like White Room and I Shot The Sheriff. His band included Doyle Bramhall II playing guitar, Chris Stainton and Paul Carrack playing keyboards and of course Nathan East on the bass guitar. He played a good acoustic set that included Layla and Tears In Heaven. He finished the set with the JJ Cale classic, Cocaine. The show finished with a single encore that had Clapton being joined by Jimmie Vaughan and Gary Clark Jr for a jam on Joe Cocker's High Time We Went. A good show that was well received by the sellout MSG crowd and tomorrow I will do it all over again. We finished the evening with a late night stroll in Times Square an excellent day.Slideshow
