Styx Come Sail Away To Artpark Tuesday In The Park

8/19/2014 - Lewiston, New York - The second to last Artpark Tuesday In The Park concert was held today, today's classic rock was provided by the rock band Styx. The weather for today's show was absolutely perfect, warm and sunny with no chance of rain and this helped facilitate another sellout crowd. We stopped at Reids for the usual early dinner and hit Artpark almost and hour before the doors opened. The line was huge, the sellout crowd wanted to get in early and enjoy the nice weather that has been absent from prior shows, but we managed to get our normal spot. The opening band was a local Buffalo band called Potters Field, who came out promptly at 6:30 and played a lousy set. I am not sure who selects these opening bands but they were not good this a future opportunity for Artpark to improve next year. After intermission Styx hit the stage right at eight and played a great energetic set. They opened with The Grand Illusion and played many of their classics including Lady, Crystal Ball, Blue Collar Man, and finished the set with Come Sail Away. The set also included a good cover of the Beatle's song I Am The Walrus. Original members Tommy Shaw and James Young still jam and play the songs with great energy and Lawrence Gowan does a good job on vocals and keyboards. They came out for an encore of two songs Rockin In Paradise and finishing with Renegade. The sellout crowd thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining show almost all stayed to the end. Sadly only one show left this season, see you next week Artpark.Slideshow
