Long Travel Day Gets Us Back Way Down South To London Town

5/21/2023 - London, England - Literally eight years to the day, we are making the trek back to London, England for a concert getaway trip similar to our 2015 London trip, this trip was to see Eric Clapton and friends pay tribute to one of the greatest guitar players of all-time, Jeff Beck, who passed away earlier this year. The two night tribute show was to take place at the amazing Royal Albert Hall and numerous rock stars were going to perform including Ronnie Wood, Rod Stewart, Billy Gibbons, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, John McLaughlin and Johnny Depp to name a few. We had tickets for both nights. Our journey to get to London started the day earlier driving to Toronto Pearson Airport to catch a British Airways direct redeye flight from YYZ to Heathrow. The seven hour plus flight was smooth and passed pretty quick watching movies and enjoying some in flight cocktails. We arrived in London mid morning and took the Tube from the airport to Westminster Station. We bypassed buying a Tube pass and used our credit cards for each Tube trip individually capped at 8 pounds a day a much cheaper alternative to travel in the city for the trip. We made it to Westminster in about an hour or so and walked to our favorite hotel in London the excellent Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel. We arrived early in the afternoon and had to wait for our room to be ready, unfortunately no upgrades this trip. We grabbed a pizza in the hotel restaurant/bar and rested there a bit until our suite was ready. The suite was excellent as usual and included a bedroom and separate living room. We rested a bit and then took in some of the sites of the Westminster area including my personal favorite Big Ben. We also saw Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and the London Eye. We explored the area a bit and then decided to head back to the Plaza and stream the final round of the PGA Championship from Rochester, New York. This took us late into the night and we crashed getting ready for the next day which will be our first full day in London and show one at the Royal Albert Hall! Slideshow
