Road Trip To Minneapolis For Super Bowl XXVI

1/26/1992 - Minneapolis, Minnesota - The Buffalo Bills were headed to their second straight Super Bowl. We decided we had to be there and so we hopped in the car and drove fifteen hours to downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota to watch our Bills take on the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XXVI. Five of us squeezed into Mike's Grand Am and made the fifteen hour drive thru a massive winter storm, that included seeing a horrible bus accident that killed two members of the Notre Dame swim team, but we made it safely. Mike won tickets in the NFL Super Bowl lottery and I had bought our tickets from a ticket broker that I had to meet in downtown Minneapolis. We arrived at the Metrodome and after a frantic search we found my ticket broker with my tickets and then we hit a bar next to the stadium and Jack scalped his ticket for a little less than four hundred. So our first Super Bowl was secured and we went to our hotel in outskirts of Minneapolis, then the partying began! We hit the town going to first see the ice sculptures including an awesome ice castle, then it was off to a local bar that was renamed to Billsville in honor of the Bills. We met tons of people from Buffalo and partied it up. We then hit the NFL Experience meeting NFL greats like Steve Largent, John Elway, Emmitt Smith and many others. We had a great time working on our football skills and attending the Super Bowl Card Show. The day of the big game we were up early getting food and eagerly anticipating attending our first Bowl. We headed into town and meandered thru the massive indoor tunnel system of the Twin Cities. This included attending several pregame parties with live music. We entered the Metrodome as soon as the doors opened and breathlessly awaited the games start. Harry Connick Jr sang the National Anthem. The Bills led by coach Marv Levy could not handle the physical Redskins either offensively or defensively and dug themselves in a hole that they never got out of. By the time the Winter Olympic themed halftime show featuring Gloria Estafon ended the Bills turned over the ball and were down 24. They lost the game 37 to 24, but it was a fantastic experience attending our first Super Bowl ! Slideshow
