NYC Trip Starts With Rock Hall Of Fame Induction At Barclays

4/8/2016 - Brooklyn, New York - A weekend getaway to New York City started very early today. We drove to downtown Rochester catching the early Amtrak train from Rochester to Penn Station in the heart of NYC. We arrived in the early afternoon walking to our hotel the Holiday Inn Express on 36th Street. The room was not ready and we dropped our luggage there and headed to Times Square for an early dinner at Red Lobster. After dinner, we checked into our room and then hopped on the subway to head to Brooklyn. The destination tonight was the Barclays Center to attend the 31st Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. We arrived a little early and decided to stop at Guitar Center across the street to check out their inventory and play some guitars. We had decent seats for the show and the crowd was late arriving for the 7PM sharp start. We managed to see some stars in attendance like Larry David and Tom Hanks. The show started late and opened with Lars Ulrich introducing the first inductees, Deep Purple. A nice intro telling how he some them as a youth, Deep Purple came out and played some classics like Highway Star and Smoke On The Water. The next inductee was Steve Miller who came out and talked of how his godfather, Les Paul, had a major influence on his music and career. He played a couple good tunes including The Joker and Fly Like And Eagle. The next inductee was N.W.A. who did not perform but talked of how their type of music deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The next inductee was the band Chicago, being inducted by Rob Thomas with a funny moment of the original drummer telling organizers they would have to wait until he was done as he waited 25 years for this moment. They played classics like Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? joined by Rob Thomas and 25 or 6 to 4. The final inductee was Cheap Trick being inducted by Kid Rock who was pretty comical giving his synopsis of the evening. Cheap Trick ended the show with hits like Surrender and Dream Police. The night ended with everyone coming out and joining Cheap Trick for a final song extended jam on Ain't That A Shame. A good start to the NYC weekend.Slideshow
