Road Trip To Pavilion At Star Lake For Dead & Company Show

6/5/2023 - Burgettstown, Pennsylvania - In what appears to be a more common theme for me these days, I made a gametime decision to take a road trip to Burgettstown, Pennsylvania to the Pavilion At Star Lake to see Dead & Company perform on their dubbed Final Tour 2023. I bought a ticket two days before the show dead center ten rows back, then decided I was probably not going to go so put the ticket up for sale on Ticketmaster and it sold allowing me to make a few bucks. It was early morning day of the show and I checked Ticketmaster and found a ticket eleven rows back left center stage, so I bought it. I received a robocall from Ticketmaster telling me that I should get to the venue early due to potential traffic issues which did happen and caused thousands to miss some or all of the show. I left my house at 9:30am and made the almost five hour drive nonstop. I headed down I90 West to I79 South finally to US-22 and for 300 miles encountered no traffic problems but within the last 2 miles the traffic was already beginning to back up but I managed to get into the lot for free and in plenty of time. As I said many who came later did NOT ! The Dead Heads were out in full force for this show and I met some nice people including a guy from California who has been to all the shows and is trying to hit all the remaining dates in his Mercedes van. The zoo, that is called Shakedown Street was also in full force for this show. It included a huge area of vendors selling everything and anything including food, tons of Dead merchandise, alcohol, drugs, and pretty much everything and anything. The doors opened late for the show and huge lines formed taking way longer to get in than it should have, I was able to slide in from the side pretty quickly avoiding the huge queues. This was a pretty nice venue and again my seat was only 11 rows back left center of the stage. They came out a few minutes past 7 and played an awesome three hour plus set. They opened with Hell In A Bucket and then went into Alabama Getaway. They did an excellent jam on Bertha and closed the first set with Don't Ease Me In. They were pretty tight and sounded excellent. John Mayer jamming his extended jams and Bob Wier vocals were sounding good. After a great set one, set two would be just as good opening with Viola Lee Blues and then doing an excellent Truckin'. They closed out the show with a crowd pleasing jam on Not Fade Away. They came out for one encore an excellent cover of The Band's, The Weight. At the end of the show I ran out to my car to avoid the potential traffic jam, stopping for gas ten miles down the road and then driving non-stop all the way back home. It was an excellent show and definitely worth the last minute road trip to see Dead & Company on this thier Final Tour.... Slideshow
