North Of The Border Road Trip For Tedeschi Trucks At The Bud

8/15/2024 - Toronto, Canada - Today, I took the day off work and headed North of the Border into Toronto, Canada to the Budweiser Stage to see one of my favorite touring bands Tedeschi Trucks Band perform on their Deuces Wild Tour. It was a gorgeous summer day and I started my trip early heading down Route 104 into Niagara Falls to enjoy a great lunch at Jonfres Tavern with my old college buddy. The beefs and beers were excellent as always. After lunch, I headed into Canada across the Rainbow Bridge where traffic was actually pretty light and made a quick stop at The Honeypot Smoke Shop for some buds for the Bud. Traffic on the QEW was not bad on this nice day and I made it into Toronto in good time and found a semi cheap parking spot close to the Budweiser Stage. I was early and decided to take a stroll thru Trillium Park which offered spectacular views of the Toronto skyline, Lake Ontario and the nearby airport, definitely one of my favorite walks in the big city. I made my way to Budweiser Stage and picked up some refreshments and headed to my great seat eleven rows back dead center stage. The show appeared to be soldout and the opening act, Margo Price, came out promptly at seven and played about an hour set. She was okay definitely would be classified as country rock and she did have a good voice and her band was pretty tight. After a brief intermission, Tedeschi Trucks Band hit the stage at about 8:30 and played a great two hour plus set. They opened with Do I Look Worried and played a jam filled cover of Muddy Waters' Got My Mo-jo Working (But It Just Won'y Work On You) with Susan Tedeschi adding a nice guitar solo and great vocals. They did a nice cover of Derek and the Dominos, Key To The Highway, with Susan and Derek Trucks both making their guitars wail and being helped by Mike Mattison on vocals. They played other classics like How Blue Can You Get? , Midnight In Harlem, Anyhow and closed the set with Made Up Mind. The band was tight as usual and just has lots of talented musicians including Gabe Dixon on keyboards, Tyler Greenwell and JJ Johnson both on drums, a great horn section and excellent backup singers. The sellout Budweiser Stage crowd appeared very pleased with the performance and the band came out for a two song encore. The first song Tedeschi was joined by Margo Price for a good version of Color of the Blues. The final number Margo Price and her entire band joined the entire Tedeschi Trucks Band for a good extended jam covering Leon Russell's Stranger In A Strange Land. This was a great show definitely worth the trip and tomorrow I get to do it over again at CMAC. I made it out of Toronto without problem and only encountered a delay due to bridge traffic at the Queenston Lewiston Bridge where apparently two other concerts were letting out and caused large lines at 1AM in the morning. Another successful Toronto trip in the books.Slideshow
