Delays, Broncos & Pikes Peak Start Adventure To Colorado

8/21/2026 - Denver, Colorado - Our adventure to Colorado started the day prior at Rochester International Airport taking a flight from Rochester to Chicago which was delayed due to weather and made us miss our connection to Denver by 15 minutes. So we were stuck in Chicago's Midway International Airport for the night. In the morning, we caught the earliest flight available to Denver and arrived late morning there losing an entire day of our trip. We grabbed our rental car and headed to our hotel the nicely located Holiday Inn Express in Littleton. We grabbed an excellent lunch at Homegrown Tap & Dough and then picked up a couple tickets to the Denver Broncos versus the Green Bay Packers preseason night game at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium. We drove to downtown Denver and parked right next to the stadium and took in the excellent pregame festivities outside the stadium. We walked the nice stadium and went to our seats in the corner of the end zone and enjoyed a really nice game day experience that saw Green Bay beat down Denver 33-13. We even saw old Tyrod Taylor throw a touchdown for Green Bay backing up Jordan Love at QB. The next day, our first full day in Colorado, we had a decent breakfast at the hotel and then headed a couple hours south down I25 stopping at the scenic Air Force Academy then onto our final destination the nice little town of Manitou Springs. We shopped the many shops and then hopped on the free trolley to Pikes Peak Cog Railway to take a train ride to the top of Pikes Peak. The ride up to 14,115 feet was nice and relaxing and the views were impressive. Unfortunately, when we reached the summit some views were obscured by dense cloud cover but still some excellent views and you could definitely feel the elevation at the summit. It also included seeing some Yellow-bellied marmots and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. The trip down offered more great views and we finished the day in Manitou Springs. Slideshow
