ZZ Top Entertains NYS Fair Crowd At Suburban Park Stage

9/3/2026 - Syracuse, New York - Today, in a last minute decision I decided to hop in my new car and take a ride to Syracuse, New York to the Great New York State Fair to see the classic rock of ZZ Top, or better known as the Billy Gibbons Band, perform at Suburban Park Stage. I left work early and headed east down the NYS Thruway to the Syracuse Fair Grounds. It was a nice day and traffic was surprisingly light as I pulled into the parking lot and headed to the Fair. I stopped at the Chevy display sitting in the newest Vette and getting my free Chevy shirt. I also headed to the Dairy Building checking out this years awesome butter sculpture. I walked the midway and made my way to Suburban Park Stage early and found people were already seated and I managed to get a great spot about ten rows back dead center stage. ZZ Top's long time drummer, Frank Beard, just passed away about two weeks ago and Dusty Hill has been gone for over five years leaving Billy Gibbons as the only original member. The show must go on though and ZZ Top's lineup now included Elwood Francis on bass and Michael Monahan on the drum kit. The crowd was large and filled in quickly. The band hit the stage on time and played a really good set of classic ZZ Top hits. They opened with Got Me Under Pressure and played as many classics as they could fit into the near two hour set. It included jams on Gimme All Your Lovin', Pearl Necklace, I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide and Cheap Sunglasses. They played the staple Just Got Paid and closed the set with the white fur guitars for Legs. They sounded pretty good on this night and Billy's fretboard work and gritty vocals were still getting it done. They came out for a four song encore that included deep tracks Brown Sugar and Thunderbird. They closed the show with La Grange. Again, a good show that was a little more than years prior with twelve dollar parking and eight dollar Fair admission, still a bargain to be entertained by the classic rock of ZZ Top. Slideshow
