Robert Cray Band Takes The Road Down To Ithaca |

 3/13/2015 - Ithaca, New York - Today on this second consecutive Friday the 13th of 2015, we took a road trip east to Ithaca, New York to see one of our favorite blues guitarists perform at the State Theatre of Ithaca, the awesome blues of the Robert Cray Band on their In My Soul tour. It was a decent day for a road trip still a little cool but the roads were clear and we arrived in Ithaca at dinner time and stopped at the Ithaca Ale House for some good food just around the corner from the theatre. We stopped at will call and picked up our tickets which were front row dead center stage. The State Theatre of Ithaca was a nice small venue seating about 1500 that is showing it's age a bit. The opening act came on promptly at 8 pm a local blues band called Digger Jones who were actually very good. They did a good set of blues and the lead guitarist not only looked a little like Mark Knopfler but played in his style. A nice opener for Robert Cray. After a short intermission Robert Cray hit the stage with his band and played an excellent set. He opened his set with Side Dish and played a variety of songs both old and new. He played classics like Poor Johnny, Sittin On Top Of The World, The Road Down and Right Next Door. He finished the set with his classic Time Makes Two. Just a great show from Robert and his band they continue to entertain, I think he is one of the most underrated blues guitarists out there today. Sitting in the front row we managed to get a setlist and a couple of Robert's guitar picks. He came out for the encore and played a song from his new album Hip Tight Onions and finished with a nice jam on Chicken In The Kitchen. Again a great show and a nice little venue, when he comes back we will be there. Slideshow | |
