Thorogood And Setzer Open Up 2015 CMAC Concert Season

5/30/2015 - Canandaigua, New York - Today was the opening concert of the 2015 season at Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center better known as CMAC. The headliner for this opening day was George Thorogood And The Destroyers with special guest Brian Setzer billed as the Rockabilly Riot Show. This concert was also the first free concert of the year compliments of Deb. We headed out a little early and Dom drove thru a torrential down pour to get us to Canandiagua. We stopped for a quick bite at Pizza Hut then off to CMAC. The rains poured during this show and no one was on the lawn, but the venue was pretty full. The opening act Davy Knowles played a not that great short acoustic set. He was shortly followed by Brian Setzer and his band that came out and played a great set of covers and classic Stray Cat stuff. He got the crowd rocking with tunes like Stray Cat Strut, a great cover of Jerry Lee Lewis's Great Balls of Fire, and Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues. The crowd loved his set and his encore was very good covering Santo and Johnny's Sleep Walk and ending with Rock This Town. Setzer's energy and guitar skills wowed the CMAC crowd. Thorogood and the Destroyers came out and did what was actually a very pedestrian set. It was a short set that included some of his classics and some of his more commercially successful stuff. It included the standards like Move It On Over, One Bourbon One Scotch One Beer, and I Drink Alone to name a few. The crowd did not seem very much into his set and Thorogood did NOT come out for an encore. The first time I have ever seen him not come out for one in over fifteen shows. Still even without an encore it was a good show and it was free, thanks Deb...
