An Afternoon With Robert Cray At Scenic Point Of The Bluff |

 9/11/2022 - Hammondsport, New York - Today, on this rainy Sunday afternoon we headed southeast to a new venue, Point of the Bluff Vineyards in Hammondsport, New York to see one of our favorite blues guys perform the Robert Cray Band. I discovered this venue by chance checking on Cray concert dates when Hammondsport turned up. It was an hour and forty-five minute drive on this rainy Sunday afternoon to the picturesque concert venue located on Keuka Lake. We arrived early enough to grab some decent food truck barbecued chicken sandwiches and a couple drinks and headed into this small very nice venue holding only about six hundred people. We had excellent seats center stage four rows back. The opening act was the Gabe Stillman Duo that provided some nice blues to start the mid afternoon show off. Their set was thirty minutes of blues and was pretty good, a nice opener for Cray. After a short intermission, Cray and company hit the stage promptly at 4 PM and played a ninety minute set of classic stuff. They played classics like Poor Johnny, Sitting On Top Of The World, Chicken In The Kitchen and I Can't Fail. The band was pretty tight but the show was marred by some technical issues with the vocal mix and some scratchy mic issues. The band still put on a great show and the venue provided a nice and cozy feel for the afternoon of jams. The band closed the set with You Must Believe In Yourself. They came out for a two song encore of I Shiver and finishing the show with a nice jam on Time Makes Two. Again a good show at a nice venue that is on our radar for future shows.
