Robert Cray Band Brings The Blues To Asbury Hall |

 10/1/2019 - Buffalo, New York - Today, I left work early and headed West to downtown Buffalo on this rainy day to see one my favorite blues guys, the Robert Cray Band perform at Asbury Hall at Babeville right in the heart of downtown Buffalo. I arrived very early and was second in line for the seated general admission show. This would be the third time this year seeing the band who I just saw perform at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas the week prior. I secured a front row spot dead center stage and ran into an old high school friend and secured a front row spot for her and her friend. The opener for tonight's show was a local contemporary blues band called the Tommy Z band. They did an okay short set of blues. Soon after Cray and his band hit the stage and did the typical great set. They opened with Phone Booth and sounded very tight for the first couple numbers, but an amplifier issue caused some problems with roadies scrambling to fix the issue. The show continued with keyboardist Dover Weinberg handling the lead for one number while the man with no amplifier awaited a fix. The troubles were resolved and Robert continued playing classics like Bad Influence, I'm Done Cryin' and Right Next Door to name a few. He closed with a two song encore that included You Must Believe In Yourself and the finale of what else but Time Makes Two. After the show I managed to secure Cray guitar pick and a setlist for my high schoolfriend and her friend they were both thrilled to get them and thanked me for the seat upgrade. I also ran into my fellow die hard Cray fan from Lewiston minus his better half who hopefully is recovering from a recent surgery. Robert continues to impress and I will get to see him one more time this year next week at Ithaca State Theatre. It never gets old !Slideshow [] | |
