7/30/2024 - Lewiston, New York - Today it is Tuesday in July and that historically means a show is to be had at Artpark and in a last minute decision I picked up a ticket to see Slash and his S.E.R.P.E.N.T Festival perform at Artpark's Amphitheater. The festival's name is an anagram for Solidarity, Engagement, Restore, Peace, Equality N' Tolerance. Good to see them promoting something positive and the ticket was only 30 bucks and Slash was going to play all blues to promote his latest album Orgy Of The Damned, which was all blues with special guest artists. Tonight Slash would have Robert Randolph, ZZ Ward and Keb' Mo' opening with some blues jams. I was there early enough to get a spot in the small line awaiting entry into Artpark and when the gates opened I secured my usual good spot behind the pay seats. The show was not a sellout and weather was a factor today as rain was in the forecast and would come down for part of this show. Robert Randolph opened the show and soon after the rains did come down during his set making it somewhat shortened and very wet. He did some good covers of I'm So Glad and Foxy Lady but again the rain made it difficult to enjoy. The rains appear to have ended and next up was ZZ Ward who did a good set of blues that included Dust My Broom and Cadillac Man. After a brief intermission Keb' Mo' and his band hit the stage and played a very good set. They opened with Somebody Hurt You and Keb' admitted to being buzzed and told the crowd he had been drinking all day, I say he was a little looser than normal. He and his band had good sound and played a nice jam on Suitcase and closed their set with a good rendition of I Remember You. After another brief intermission the headliner Slash hit the stage and absolutely wailed out an excellent blues set. Slash ripped thru classic blues songs like Howlin Wolf's Killing Floor, Booker T and the MG's Born Under A Bad Sign and T-Bone Walker's Stormy Monday. He did a nice cover of Fleetwood Mac's Oh Well in tribute to Peter Green and closed the set with a cover of Jimi Hendrix's Stone Free. Slash's performance was impressive and his band helped bring the nice extended jams on these blues classics. The crowd although not a sellout definitely enjoyed this show. They closed the show with a two song encore of It Takes a Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry and the finale of Shake Your Money Maker. This was really a good show and even though it rained overall well worth the trip and ticket price of 30 dollars. Thanks Artpark......Slideshow [] | | Toronto Road Trip For John Mayer At Scotiabank Arena | Yeehaw Free Country Show With Tim McGraw At Darien Lake |

7/30/2019 - Toronto, Canada - Today, Dom and I headed north of the border to Toronto, Canada's Scotiabank Arena to see one of our favorites, John Mayer. We crossed the border into Canada at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge with short wait times. A nice day for the drive to Kipling Station to pickup the TTC to take us right to the door of Scotiabank Arena. We had a not so good dinner at Hoops Sports Bar and headed into the show. We had good tickets left of the stage and Mayer and his band would have no opener and they would play two great sets. He opened set one with a nice jam on Belief. The first set included Something Like Olivia, Who Says and Waiting On The World To Change. Set two included lots of classics like the cover of Tom Petty's Free Fallin', the jam filled Slow Dancing In A Burning Room and the set closed with one of my favorites, Gravity. He came out for a two song encore that included Roll It On Home and New Light. A very good show that was enjoyed by the sold-out Scotiabank crowd. We headed back to Kipling via the TTC and then back across the border. The border guard knew me thru my cousin in the Southern tier, whats the odds of that. An excellent road trip well worth the drive.Slideshow [] | 7/30/2015 - Corfu, New York - Today we headed west to Darien Lake Performing Arts Center for a first for us, our first ever country concert to see Tim McGraw. Deb entered me in a contest and I was picked as one of nineteen to participate in September to win a brand new Ford F-150 truck. The prize also included tickets to the Tim McGraw concert sitting in the back of a Ford pickup right next to the stage. We can not get much more country than that. We decided to go since we would get the VIP treatment and sitting in the truck next to the stage was pretty cool. The opener was a left handed guitarist named Chase Bryant who did an okay set. The next act was Billy Currington and the country jams let loose. After a brief intermission Tim McGraw hit the stage and the sellout crowd went crazy. He played a typical set compared with his other shows. It included an encore cover of Elton John's Tiny Dancer which was the only song I knew. During the show he was joined on stage with Jim Kelly who was his long time friend. Jim came out an addressed the crowd and threw some footballs out. The roar of the crowd for Kelly was deafening. We can cross this off our bucket list as country is just not my scene. We will be back in September to try and win the truck, one in nineteen is a good chance..Slideshow [] | The Machine Brings The Floyd Back To Tuesday In The Park | Rik Emmett Jams In Downtown Lockport |

7/30/2013 - Lewiston, New York - Today for the forth year in a row we attended the Artpark Tuesday In The Park performance of the Pink Floyd cover band The Machine. It was another perfect night and The Machine played again with no opening band. This was the first time seeing them since the key band members left and were replaced at bass and guitar. The crowd was late arriving but filled up Artpark when they came on stage for thier first set. They opened the first set with In The Flesh and played many classics such as Have A Cigar, Another Brick In The Wall and finishing the first set with Pigs (Three Different Ones). The new band was a little tentative to start and struggled but got better as they played. The second set brought the dark and the excellent light show accompanied by an even better second set, opening with Shine On You Crazy Diamond. The farther into the set the more awesome lasers and lights they used. They played well for the second set and did a good job playing the likes of Breathe, Time, Echoes and finishing the second set with their laser light filled Comfortably Numb. They came out and played three encores closing with Brain Damage and Eclipse. A fantastic light show and some great Pink Floyd covers just has not gotten old for me yet, see ya next year!Slideshow [] | 7/30/2010 - Lockport, New York - Today at the Ulrich City Centre in downtown Lockport the Molson Canal Concert Series continued, hosting the awesome guitar talents of Rik Emmett. Dom and Dad were lucky enough to meet Rik before the show, thanks to Jack, and got some autographed photos and got a preview of the setlist for the show. Dom impressed him with his long time admiration of Rik's fretboard work, we all had a chuckle! Rik put on an excellent show, playing many of his Triumph hits and a few awesome solo tunes. Rik opened the show with Lay It on The Line and played other Triumph hits such as Allied Forces, Somebody's Out There, Rocky Mountain Way, Hold On, Fight the Good Fight and finished with an encore of Magic Power. A great show once again.Slideshow [] | Stones & AC/DC Headline Epic Sarstock Show At Downsview Park |

7/30/2003 - Toronto, Canada - Today, my brothers Jack, Mike and I headed north of the border to attend an epic concert billed as Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto (aka Sarstock) at Downsview Park in Toronto, Canada. We headed up early and picked up the TTC at Kipling to avoid the massive traffic due to the expected large crowd, a great move. The headliner was the Rolling Stones and it was the largest concert ever in Canadian history with the crowd estimated at over 480,000 people. The all day event was hosted by Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi and had an unparralled lineup that included the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Rush, The Guess Who (with Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman), The Isley Brothers, Jeff Healy & Sass Jordan, The Flaming Lips, Tea Party, Blue Rodeo, Justin Timberlake and numerous others. We literally stood in the same spot for eleven hours never having to use the bathroom due to the extreme heat that had the crowd getting sprayed with hoses and throwing out thousands of free water bottles. This epic show had Justin Timberlake get booed off the stage twice having to dodge water bottles. He then joined the Stones, Mick Jaggar, for a number and got booed again angering Keith Richards to the point he had to simmer the crowd. Rush was an awesome last minute addition to the lineup and did a great set. The Guess Who with originals members Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings also doing a great set. AC/DC came out just prior to the Stones and I would say pretty much stole the show with their excellent set. The Stones closed the show with a ninety minute set that included being joined by members of AC/DC for a couple of awesome numbers. This was the largest concert event I have ever attended and the best twenty dollar ticket I have ever purchased !Slideshow [] | |
